Editor

Writer Journal's Editor page is a powerful workstation where you can edit your document with lots of handy tools, it has Real-time analyzers aka RTA and many formatting tools to help you compose your next masterpiece. Let's jump right into using it.

Document language

In Writer Journal, every document must have a language attribute associated with it, this language attribute is used by real-time analyzers (RTA) to correctly analyze your document. Please follow the steps below to set a language for your document. (See the screenshot)

Real-time analysers (RTA)

At the time of writing this documentation, Writer Journal is the only app to provide this fantastic real-time text analyzing feature on the Android market. RTA is a dynamic feature designed especially for writers to help evaluate their text work in a variety of text analysis aspects. In terms of category, real-time analyzers (RTA) can be divided into three big categories. Namely Counter , Density calculator and Custom analyzer. Please check the following list.

Counter:

Character

Word

Paragraph

Grammar words

Punctuation

Digit count

Emails

Hashtags

Density calculater:

Unique words percentage

Lexical density

Lexical diversity

Custom analyzer:

Most frequent lexical word

We believe most of the counters need no explanation because their name is self explaining. Followings are explanation for others:

Unique words : if any exactly same word appeared more than one time in your document, it will be counted as one.

Unique words percentage: the ratio of unique words divided by total words

Lexical density: the ratio of lexical words divided by total words

Lexical diversity: the ratio of unique lexical words divided by total words

A well written English text usually has 56% or above lexical density than spoken text

You can toggle on or off any of these real-time analyzers by following the steps below. (See the screenshot)

RTA color indicator

Sometimes when you carefully focus on writing your text content, you may forget to check specific counter widget to see if your text is still within the required length or say word count limit. That's exactly what RTA color indicator is designed for, you can specify a range limit for counter widget or density calculator widget. And the color indicator will change its color based on your specified range limit. Please follow the steps below to learn how to correctly use it.

Note that smart use of RTA color indicator widget will make your writing easier to track and organize.

Format your text

Here are the formatting tools that you can use to quickly format your document. These tools are generally divided into two big categories. Namely character style and paragraph style.

Character style

Character styles are 8, there are 4 common ones, namely bold , italic , underline and strike-through . And there are foreground color and background color styles, link and comment. These styles are applied to characters, hence the name "character style".

How to apply bold, italic, underline and strike-through style to your text?

There are two ways to apply it to your text, first is "toggle before input" method, it's before you start typing your text, you click one of these characters styles buttons to toggle it on, and after you finished typing your text, you click it again to toggle it off. Second is "toggle after input" method, it's when you have already typed your text, and you want a specific text section to be styled, you just need to select that section and toggle the character style button on. (See the screenshot)

How to apply foreground and background colors to your text?

By default, foreground and background color options are turned off. User will have to enable it in the tools settings panel at the very bottom in the editor page by clicking the gear icon. (See the screenshots)

  1. Load Welcome Writer document into the editor page.
  2. Swipe the tools panel to the very end and click the gear icon to navigate to Editor Tools page.
  3. In the Editor Tools page, user can enable or disable formatting tools or use drag and drop gesture to reorder them to their preferences. Find “Foreground color” and “Background color” options and enable them. Click √ to save the changes.

After enabling these options, user will have to select a color by clicking the foreground color button , and select a color in the foreground color dialog window, click color blue and then click “Select”.

The selected color will be reflected on the foreground color button.

Now, just like applying bold or italic effect to the selected text, apply foreground color style by using “toggle after input” method. Select a portion of your text, and click foreground color button to apply the selected color.(See the screenshots)

Note that background color style works just the same way, users can easily apply a background color style to their text by following the exact procedure.

How to attach link or comment to a specific portion of your text?

Just like applying foreground color style, users can attach a URL link or comment to their text. By using the “toggle after input” method, like foreground and background color styles, users have to enable the link and comment style options first in the Editor Tools page, because these options are turned off by default.

  1. After enabling these options in the Editor Tools page, they will be accessible to users in the Editor Tools Panel in the Editor page.
  2. Now, select a portion of your text and then click Link Style Button to attach a URL link to the selected text. Enter the URL address and click OK to attach. (See the screenshots)

Note that attaching a comment works just the same way, users can easily attach a comment to their text by following the exact procedure.

Outline

Ever felt frustrated when you have voluminous text and it's becoming harder to navigate to different sections? Writer Journal's outline feature is designed just for that. Outline feature collects all header sections in your text and reconstruct them into an easy to navigate graph and help you quickly navigate to specific header section.

Note that outline feature only works if your text contains at least one header text. If a bigger header is followed by smaller header, it will reconstruct them into a tree-like structure where smaller header is considered to be a branch of the bigger header.

Please follow the steps below to use the outline feature correctly. (See the screenshots)

Formatting Style Collection

From WriterJournal 2.42 onwards, we introduced the Formatting Style Collection feature, which helps writer quickly find a specific formatting style position. It currently consists of three main collection lists, namely links, colors and comments. Each of these options provide users with navigable lists of formatting styles currently present in the loaded documents. Please follow the steps below to learn how to use this “Formatting Style Collection” feature. We will demonstrate this feature with comments option only, because others work just in the same manner. (See the screenshots)

  1. Load Welcome Writer document into the editor page
  2. Select “WriterJournal” keyword and click comment button to attach a comment to the selected text. And attach some other comments in the same way to other text.
  3. Now, click more option in the editor page and select “Comments” in the options menu.
  4. A dialog window will be shown with a collection of all the comments currently present in the loaded document, clicking on one of these comments will immediately bring the cursor to that comment position. Facilitating viewing, finding and editing of comments in the document.

Note that, the other two options (links and colors) work exactly the same way, we believe this feature greatly helps writers organize their work and increase productivity in the most minimalist way possible.
